The UAE's penultimate match of their World Cup preparation tour of Australia saw a defeat to a strong South Australia team today in Darwin.

Put into bat by UAE captain Khurram Khan, South Australia's innings started badly when Mark Cosgrove was caught behind from the first ball of the match. Travis Head and Dutch international Tom Cooper then put on 43 for the second wicket before Cooper was out for 16. Head went on to score 67 before he was the fifth man out in the 22nd over with the score on 110.

With that innings the only real bright spot at the beginning of the South Australia innings, the UAE were just about on top in the game, no doubt hoping to restrict South Australia to around 200. They failed to capitalise on that good start though, as Johan Botha and Tim Ludeman put on 46 for the sixth wicket.

Ludeman and Alex Gregory then put on 72 for the seventh wicket, with Ludeman eventually going on to score 69 before he was bowled by Amjad Javed. He helped South Australia record 271-8 from their 50 overs, a stiff target for the tourists.

The UAE reply though was dominated by the South Australian bowlers. Kane Richardson and Daniel Worrall both took three wickets as the UAE were bowled out for 168 to lose by 103 runs. Andri Berenger top scored for the UAE with 34.

The UAE's tour concludes on Thursday with a second match against South Australia.
