The Netherlands have gained promotion to Division One of the European Under-19 Championship after beating Guernsey in their final match today.

Batting first after winning the toss at Coggeshall Cricket Club, Guernsey lost William Fazakerley in the fourth over, but were able to put on 90 for the second wicket thanks to Barnaby Thompson and Thomas Nightingale.

That partnership ended when Nightingale was trapped lbw by Rens van Troost for 42. Thompson went on to score 78 before he was run out, though no other batsman was able to stay in with him for any significant period of time.

Thompson's dismissal was the start of a collapse that saw Guernsey lose their last five wickets for just ten runs as they were bowled out for 204. Rens van Troost was the pick of the Dutch bowlers with 4-31.

The Dutch lost Hamdan Khan early on in their reply, but soon recovered as Saqib Zulfiqar and Asad Zulfiqar put on a match winning partnership. The pair put on an unbroken 173 for the second wicket, with Saqib reaching 103 and Asad scoring 68.

The win, coupled with Jersey's win over Denmark in today's other match, ensured that the Netherlands are promoted to Division One, which will take place some time next year. There they will come up against Ireland, Scotland and fellow promoted side Jersey.
