Jersey have started their campaign in Division 2 of the European Under-19 Championship with a straightforward victory over Italy at Essex University.
Italy, invited to this tournament despite finishing behind both the Isle of Man and France the last time they played at Under-19 level, batted first after losing the toss and soon found themselves struggling against Jersey's bowling line up.
Hasnat Qureshi and Zain Ifthikar were the only Italian batsmen to reach double figures as they were bowled out for just 83. Benjamin Ward, Thomas Ward and Elliot Miles all took three wickets for Jersey, with Thomas Ward the pick of the bunch, going for just 8 runs.
Unsurprisingly, that target was not a difficult one for Jersey to chase. William Robertson was dismissed cheaply after 7 overs, but Benjamin Ward and Jonty Jenner guided their team home with an unbroken 54 partnership for the second wicket, with Jenner scoring 34 from just 23 balls.
Jersey will have a day off tomorrow, and will next be in action on Tuesday when they take on Channel Island rivals Guernsey. Italy's next match is also against Guernsey and will take place tomorrow.
