Chaminda Ruwan takes Singapore to Division 3
For the second game in a row, Chaminda Ruwan has won a game for Singapore, this time scoring a century as his team secured promotion to Division 3 of the World Cricket League by beating Jersey.
Put into bat after Singapore captain Saad Janjua won the toss at the Indian Association ground, Jersey lost wickets early on, with three men out by the eighth over, with the score on 23. But Dean Morrison and Nat Watkins got the innings right back on track with a partnership of 155 for the fourth wicket.
Morrison was eventually out for 77 in the 38th over, with Watkins following him back in the next over having scored 73. Jersey began to collapse, losing six wickets for just six runs in a little over three overs.
Number 10 Charles Perchard helped stem the flow of wickets and get Jersey's score above 200 with a knock of 34 before he was the last man out in the final over of Jersey's innings. The Channel Islanders were all out for 224, with Abhiraj Singh the pick of the home side's bowlers with 4-34/
Singapore lost Andre de Lange with just one run on the board in the first over, and three other batsmen were also dismissed for low scores. The hosts were on 56-4 in the 12th over. Chaminda Ruwan and Kshitij Shinde then took Singapore towards their target with a 162 run partnership for the fifth wicket.
That partnership ended when Shinde was out for 79, but Ruwan remained unbeaten until the end, finishing on 112. He left it to Mulewa Dharmichand to hit the winning runs though, and he finished it off in style by hitting Ben Stevens for six to complete the five wicket win.
Results elsewhere meant that Singapore were promoted to Division 3, and they will play long time rivals Malaysia in tomorrow's final. Jersey meanwhile are relegated back to Division 5 and will play Oman in the fifth place play-off.
