If the UAE were hoping that Kenya would do them a favour by beating Afghanistan and securing their qualification for the 2015 World Cup, they were let down in some style yesterday as Kenya played terribly to lose by 8 wickets.

Kenya won the toss and chose to bat first and had the misfortune to come up against an opening bowling partnership of Hamid Hassan and Shapoor Zadran at the top of their game. The pair bowled superbly, and soon had Kenya on 23-5 after nine overs.

New bowlers coming into the attack didn't help Kenya at all, as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Hassan came back at the end to finish with 4-19 as Kenya were bowled out for just 89.

Afghanistan had no problem chasing down the target, and won by 8 wickets inside 18 overs, Nawroz Mangal finishing the innings off with a six to take his score to 52.

The two teams will meet again on Friday, with an Afghan win securing their place in the 2015 World Cup.
