The popular Rathbones Spring Term Cricket Courses commenced in January 2013 and are again providing great opportunities for more than 130 boys and girls to enjoy cricket and learn new skills and techniques.
The courses are run by qualified coaches and cater for children in school years 3 to 8 at various venues; Wednesdays at Oakfield and Fridays at Les Quennevais and Langford.
"Many of the players currently representing Jersey in international tournaments started learning their cricket skills on these courses. The initiative enables us to marry the highest quality infrastructure with up and coming players. We are very grateful for Rathbones' continued support for this programme which allows young players to learn the game while enjoying the activities." commented Chris Minty of the Jersey Cricket Board.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently confirmed that Jersey had successfully beaten off competition from Argentina and Kuwait to host its first World Cricket League event since 2010. The Island's excellent facilities are testament to the support for this sport and the outstanding opportunities available for island youngsters.
Mr Minty also pointed out that in addition to the Spring Term Cricket Courses, Rathbones also support the Primary Schools Cricket Section and as a result allow even more young players to experience and enjoy cricket in Jersey.
Jonathan Giles, managing director of Rathbone Investment Management International said "Cricket remains a tremendous example of how sport should be played and we are delighted that almost 1,000 children have taken part since the launch of this JCB initiative. This must auger well for Jersey cricket's future. The spirit of cricket states you should ‘play hard and play fair' and these are great values to instil."
