Vanuatu Cricket has turned to former pro baseballer Troy Neel to help become the best fielding team in the EAP region.

Neel played professional baseball for 16 years and had stints with the Oakland Athletics and also in Japan.

Neel a first baseman comes with a wealth of knowledge and will help the National and U19 teams before they depart for PNG and Ireland in June and July.

ANZ High Performance Manager Mark Coles was delighted to have Neel on board and said that he will offer not only an insight into the enthusiasm and technical skills required to be a top fieldsman but also the mental concentration to see and create opportunities in the field.

"Troy has been an amazing athlete and the skills that he brings to the group will be of immense value, he still has an incredible arm and has some great ideas to make fielding fun and enjoyable," said Coles. "I am looking forward to his input."

Neel said he was very excited about working with Vanuatu Cricket and helping them achieve the goal of being the best fielding team in the EAP region.

"They have some very talented guys and with a little bit of fine tuning they will be a force in the field," said Neel. "I have a couple of things up my sleeve that I am sure could be used in cricket as it was in baseball."
