Rathbones Handicap 2011

This is the sixth year of the Rathbones Handicap, again generously sponsored by Rathbones, and it looks like being as competitive as ever despite there being a team less this year.

Prior to last season there were several attributes that set the winner apart namely;

They all had;

1. Had a handicap of between 36 and 47

2. Were experienced cricketers.

3. Played the majority of matches throughout the season

4. Been Senior Island players.

5. Had been predominately batsmen who, in the year of winning, had taken an unusually high amount of wickets.

Last year's winner Alex Cooke broke the trend somewhat however. His handicap of 63 (now appears rather generous) was out of the range, he was only 15 and was more of a bowler although did score 271 runs.

This year the handicaps appear much closer and it may favour those at the top of the handicap. Supposing last years result was a freak result, seven of the top eight fit most of the previous criteria and wouldn't be surprise winners.

After a couple of seasons off scratch Ryan Driver gets a bit of a reprieve from the handicapper, albeit one point a game, and Chris Jones has taken his mantle, although he will probably see it as a dubious honour. Last year's Player of the year Pete Gough is on five and as he is likely to play all games should be in the thick of it come the end of the season.

20 pts for each wicket taken

20 pts run out - direct hit (scorers please record on scorecard)

10 pts per catch

20pts per stumping

10 pts for scoring 50 in a match or taking three wickets (30

20 pts for 100 or taking five wickets

10 pts for three catches/run outs/stumpings or combination

20 pts for five catches/run outs/stumpings or a combination

**Maybe different bonuses in T20 matches

            10 -19              =  5 points

            20 - 29            = 8 points

            30 - 39            = 12points
