DCF XI v Germany, Husum Cricket Club, 23rd/24th April 2011

DCF were contacted during the winter after the Germans finished in an impressive second place in the Division 8 WCL in Dubai in February this year. For the 'Vikings' it is a great early season opportunity to have a run out at International level against a full strength WCL team.

National Coach, Simon Talbot explains. 'This is a fantastic opportunity for our young players to really make a name for themselves against what will be some decent opposition. I have been talking to my old Somerset colleague in Gibraltar, Richard Askew, and he was quite impressed with the German outfit. Obviously we are three divisions ahead of the Germans on current rankings, but the gaps in world cricket are continually closing and this series will provide exactly the type of test I am looking for our young squad'.

The 'Vikings' have been forced into making some changes for the forthcoming series for various reasons. Danish stalwart, Freddie Klokker is not available for the series due to his commitments in Holland, and a number of senior players have pulled out of the squad with other commitments. Skipper Michael Pedersen is however available to lead the side and is pleased that his young charges will get really tough work out. 'This could well be a golden opportunity for someone to stand up and stake a place in the full national team' said Pedersen earlier today. 'I know the coaching staff are looking to strengthen the squad further after Hong Kong, and I know how strong both Simon and Bret are on rewarding performance'.

Also returning to the 'Vikings' set-up will be Australian assistant coach, Bret Mulder. 'It will be great to have Bret back in the team' said Talbot. 'He has returned for his second season at Svanholm after a first winter at Guilford Grammar School in Perth. His experience and coaching skills, particularly with our spin attack, will again be of value to us this coming summer'.

The format of the weekend will be One Day International Cricket (ODI) and as normal all are welcome to come and support the young 'Vikings'. The matches themselves will begin at 11.00 am at the fantastic Husum ground in Germany. We look forward to seeing you there.
