Matthew Maynard to coach at ICC Europe Men's Academy in Dubai

Next week the ICC Europe Men's Academy gets underway at the ICC Global Cricket Academy (ICC GCA) in Dubai Sports City; where 12 of Europe's finest young cricketers will embark on a specialised programme with several leading coaches including that of ex-England Assistant coach Matthew Maynard.

ICC Europe is the first Region of the Pepsi ICC Development Programme to use the impressive, newly-opened facilities in Dubai. The 2011 Academy will comprise of players from seven countries and a team of five highly-skilled coaches and consultants.

The ICC GCA will provide a unique environment for coaching, game education and training in outstanding facilities and expertise to support the Academy programme. The 11-day trip will see the participants involved in a detailed skills programme, mixture of net sessions, video analysis, bowling, fielding and batting drills, centre wicket practice, and 1:1 discussions with coaches on player performance and goal-setting strategies.

The facilities include turf and indoor pitches which replicate the varying playing surfaces found in cricketing nations around the world and an integrated technology suite comprising of digital data capture, video and digital analysis providing real-time playback.

The ICC Europe coaching team led by Academy head coach Maynard will deliver a multi dimensional programme of cricket coaching and education with assistance from the renowned ICC GCA academy director, Rod Marsh and coach Dayle Hadlee.

Acting ICC Global Development Manager, Tim Anderson is delighted that the Europe region will be hosting their first academy at the facilities: 'The ICC Europe Men's Academy has proved to be a very important event on Europe's Development calendar over the years, and the outstanding facilities at the ICC GCA will again provide the players with a fantastic experience to take forward.'

The participants are of various ages ranging from 17-27 which completes a balanced squad and originate from seven European Member Countries - Denmark, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Jersey, Netherlands and Scotland.

ICC Regional Performance Officer, Philip Hudson also ICC Europe Men's Academy Director is delighted with the group of players who have been selected: 'The 12 cricketers are a fantastic group, it's great to include some upcoming players such as Vinoo Tewarie at just 19-years-old, who will benefit from the more experienced players around him, such as Majid Haq who has 27 one day international appearances for Scotland.'

'We are delighted to be using the ICC GCA for our Men's Academy; visiting the academy allows the players to train at the most elite training facility in the World and are thrilled by our team of expert coaches who we have brought on board.' added Hudson.

The coaching team consists of Hudson, former England Assistant coach Matthew Maynard, ECB's Head of Elite Coach Development Gordon Lord, Strength and Conditioning Coach Mark Nash and Dr Joce Brooks, Sports Psychologist.

The Academy runs from 13 February - 23 February and has been funded by the Pepsi ICC European Development Programme.
