Afghanistan captain Nawroz Mangal starred for the visitors on the first day of their final ICC Intercontinental Cup league game against hosts Kenya with an unbeaten knock of 168 (185: 23x4, 1x6).

Mangal's hundred ensured that Afghanistan ended the first day of the match at the Nairobi Gymkhana with a mammoth 440 for six off the 93 overs possible in the day.

After electing to bat first, Afghanistan lost opener Javed Ahmadi early. But the innings was stabilised by the brisk partnership of 114 for the second wicket between number three Mohammad Shahzad (72: 68b, 12x4, 1x6) and opener Karim Sadiq (55: 109b, 9x4). But after Shahzad got out with the score at 118, there was a middle-order collapse. Afghanistan lost three wickets for 31 runs to be positioned at 149 for four wickets.

Thereafter Mangal took charge of the innings. He added 61 runs for the fifth wicket with Mohammad Nabi. He further consolidated the innings with a stand of 93 for the sixth wicket with Samiullah Shenwari (45: 64b, 7x4). But the highlight of the day was an unbeaten seventh wicket partnership between Mangal and Mirwais Ashraf which fetched 137 runs. Ashraf ended the day unbeaten at 62 (77b, 9x4, 1x6).

For Kenya, the best bowler on view was Nehemiah Odhiambo who picked up 3 for 68.
