Runs galore as Island stars shine
Island players Peter Gough and Chris Jones both scored centuries on Saturday afternoon as OV's recorded an impressive ninth straight win, thrashing Aztec Springfield by 147 runs at FB1 in the CI League.
The OV's opening pair put on a brilliant first-wicket partnership of 235 runs, with Gough's 130 taking him past 500 runs for the season and Jones making 139. The league-leaders went on to score 361 in their 50 overs, a total that proved well beyond Springfield. Not even Dean Morrison's battling 90, a knock that also took his run tally for the season past 500, could take his side close, Springfield finishing all out for 214.
Centurion Gough was also amongst the wickets, returning figures of 3-9 from his 4 overs. Ben Silva too picked up 3 Aztec scalps as OV's secured an emphatic victory.
Elsewhere, Sporting Club beat Argyll Investments by 4-wickets at the KGV Field in their CI League fixture.
Batting first, Argyll Investments posted 194 all out in 40.2 overs. SCF's Bradley Vautier and Ben Beeley starred with the ball, taking 4-53 and 3-41 respectively.
In reply, SCF got off to a stuttering start before Matt Hanley's 24* and Vautier's 68*, having come in at number eight, sealed victory.
The weekend's other CI League fixture saw Farmers-Caesareans lose by six wickets to Cobo at the Farmer's Field.
Farmers could only muster 164 batting first, all out in the 44th over with captain Peter German top-scoring with 36. Cobo then knocked off the runs with comparative ease, James Faudemer's bowling figures of 2-29 the only real positive as the visitors reached their target in 31.2 overs.
