Aztec Springfield, Rathbones OVs and Optimus all kicked off their Channel Islands League campaigns with wins on Saturday afternoon in a packed weekend of fixtures.

Playing PFK Wanderers at the KGV field, the ever present Dean Morrison again starred for Springfield with the bat, his 76 at the top of the order setting the foundations for the visiting side's total of 175 all out in 44.1 overs. Simon Parker then took 5-wickets as Springfield bowled out the Wanderers for 166, Ed Kean also impressing with the ball with figures of 1-22 from his 10 overs.

At Grainville Rathbones OVs won their first CI league fixture and thus continued their unbeaten-run in the NatWest Weekend Premier League, securing a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over St Ouen.

Skipper Peter Gough returned figures of 3-22 from his 10 overs as St Ouen recorded 145 for 7 in their 50 overs. Chris Jones then announced a return to form for the OVs by hitting 67* as the title-chasers reached the total in 28.3 overs.

In the CI League's other fixture Optimus beat SCF by 8-wickets at FB1. Andy Bouchard top-scored with 47* for SCF in their total of 163, Nigel Crocker picking up 3-wickets in an economical 10 overs that leaked only 25 runs. Optimus then knocked off the runs with comparative ease, Matt Hague continuing his run of good form with 80* and Brant Duncan making 50* to secure an 8-wicket victory.

Elsewhere, Farmers-Caesareans suffered a 32-run defeat in their opening CI League fixture against Argyll Investments at the Farmer's Field. GH Smit's 78 and Will Peatfield's 35 helped Argyll to 178, a total that proved too steep for the home side. Farmers were only able to muster 146 in reply, James Turnbull making 37 and Meeku Patidar 34.
