The Afghanistan Cricket Board plans to hold Afghanistan's second Twenty20 domestic tournament towards the end of June, says ACB CEO Aimal Shinwari.

Shinwari, who did not specify the exact date of the next tournament, says “after a successful 50 overs domestic tournament, the Twenty20 is planned soon to take place in Kabul in the National Youth Cricket Ground that has seen the 50 overs trophy”. Kabul won the 50 overs trophy, beating Paktia in the final on Thursday.

Shinwari says 25 or maybe 26 teams will participate in the Twenty20 inter-provincial competition. The 50 overs competition saw 23 teams competing in four groups. The structure of the Twenty20 is not yet known and will be announced soon by the ACB, Shinwari says.

The upcoming domestic tournament is another milestone after holding a successful 50 overs competition early this month. The ACB has plans for a 3 day competition after the Twenty20 trophy.

The first Twenty20 trophy was held in Jalalabad last year. Kandahar won the trophy after beating Khost in the final.
