Early in the morning the ACB announced that Paktika has proceeded to the quarter final by virtue of having the highest net run rate amongst the three winning teams of Group B and Nangarhar had to play Laghman to determine the other team for the group B quarter final.
After a slight delay early morning, Nangarhar won the toss and elected to bat first. Zamir Khan (who scored the first century of this competition yesterday) opened Nangarhar's batting with Javed. Zamir started his innings with a boundary and together with Javed scored 14 runs in the first 2 overs, but he lost his wicket in the third over attempting another boundary.
Number three Amir Ali and Javed stayed in for 17 overs taking Nangarhar's score to 94 with a number of bog sixes and fours by Amir Ali. Laghman not only broke the partnership by taking Amir Ali's wicket, it also removed Javed in the 19th over. Losing 3 wickets for less than 100 was a big blow to Nangarhar knowing it is facing a tough opponent in Laghman.
Nanagarhar's wickets kept falling to Laghman. It lost its 4th wicket in 22nd over when it was 104, but its 6th wicket partnership scored 113 runs taking the score up to 217 in the 44th over. Nangarhar managed to reach 251 all out in 49 overs.
252 was decent target for Laghman and chasing it would require another good innings from them. Laghman had a good start by reaching their hundred in 18 overs, having 9 wickets in hand. It lost its first wicket in the 17th over when its score was 98.
Nangarhar dropped a catch in the 18th over, but took the second Laghman wicket in the 20th over. Although Laghman has lost its third wicket when its score was 150, but its 4th wicket partnership could take the score up to 190 in 32 overs before it has lost the wicket of Fahim Nasiri.
Laghman lost another three quick wickets, but remained on the track, winning the match in the 44th over chasing down their 252 target.
It was one of the most exciting matches of Etisalat 50-overs domestic tournament so far.
Laghman will meet Paktika tomorrow at the same ground. Shamshad TV will broadcast the match live and it is expected to be another exciting match as both teams have some high quality players who proved themselves in last 4 days.
