UAE break the 500 barrier
Saudi Arabia nearly got there against Bahrain four years ago, with 499, and Papua New Guinea have done it twice against New Caledonia in unofficial internationals, but the United Arab Emirates have become the first team to pass 500 in an official international one-day match at the ACC Trophy Elite in Kuwait, scoring 510-5 against Bhutan.
Led by an innings of 141 by Saqib Ali before he retired hurt, the UAE were on 433-5 with five overs to go, looking perhaps only to pass Afghanistan's 471-5 against the same opponents yesterday.
But a quick-fire innings from Abdul Rehman, who finished unbeaten on 76, helped them smash 77 from the last five overs and they reached 510-5.
The mark is bettered only by Papua New Guinea's 572-7 in an unofficial international against New Caledonia at the 2007 South Pacific Games in Samoa.
