Ward and Tribe spin Jersey to convincing win over Qatar
Jersey's spin twins Ben Ward and Zak Tribe claimed four wickets apiece as they powered their side to a convincing 34-run victory over Qatar in a high-scoring encounter.
Defending 194 for eight from their allotted 24 overs, Jersey dismissed Qatar for 160 in 22.2 overs, with Ward taking four for 29 and Tribe returning even better figures of four for 16.
Earlier, Jersey had recovered from a disastrous start that saw them slump to 37 for three inside six overs. Tribe led the recovery with an excellent 53 from 42 balls, striking three fours and three sixes, sharing a fourth-wicket partnership of 64 with Charlie Brennan.
Brennan contributed a brisk 33 from 24 deliveries, including two maximums, before Josh Lawrenson maintained the momentum with a fluent 40 from 27 balls, striking five boundaries. The late contributions of Ben Ward and Scott van Breda, who made nine apiece, helped Jersey reach a competitive total.
Mirza Mohammed Baig was Qatar's most successful bowler with three for 25, while Muhammad Asim claimed two for 44.
Qatar's reply began brightly despite the early loss of Shahzeb Afridi, with Zubair Ali and Imal Liyanage adding 68 for the second wicket. Zubair struck six fours and two sixes in a lively 54 from 43 balls, while Liyanage chipped in with 25.
However, Jersey's spinners dramatically turned the contest. Ward removed Liyanage and Zubair in quick succession, leaving Qatar struggling at 89 for three. Muhammad Asim (16) and skipper Baig (20) briefly threatened a recovery, but Tribe and Ward continued to pick off wickets at regular intervals.
Zeeshan Haider made 17, but Qatar's lower order crumbled under the pressure. Julius Sumerauer wrapped up the innings with his second wicket, finishing with two for 26 as Jersey completed another impressive all-round performance.
