Capell and Mills power Glendermott to emphatic win

Glendermott maintained their position at the top of the Championship and kept the pressure firmly on the chasing pack with a maximum-points victory at Burndennett.

The hosts were dismissed for 145 before openers Blayde Capell and Ben Mills produced a devastating unbeaten partnership to race the Rectory side to a 10-wicket win in just 14.4 overs.

Burndennett had looked capable of posting a more substantial total when Usman Azhar was at the crease. He struck seven fours and four sixes in an entertaining 59 from 57 balls, while Marty Mahaffey contributed 29.

However, the league leaders hit back strongly after Burndennett reached 123 for five. The last five wickets added only 22 runs as Curtis Ross and Harry Boyd each claimed three wickets.

Ross returned excellent figures of three for 14, with Boyd taking three for 11. Jayjay O'Brien picked up two wickets as the home side were bowled out well inside their allotted overs.

The chase was then turned into a procession by overseas professional Capell and Mills, who matched each other almost blow for blow during a spectacular opening assault.

Capell finished unbeaten on 69 from 44 balls, smashing six fours and six sixes, while Mills was just behind him with 65 not out from 44 deliveries, containing seven fours and four sixes.

Their unbroken 146-run stand ensured Glendermott collected maximum points in emphatic fashion and strengthened their grip on top spot as the Championship promotion battle gathers pace going into the home straight.
