The T20 Trophy final between Carrickfergus and Armagh was postponed, 10 balls into the second innings after a serious injury to Ryan Eagleson.

The veteran Ireland international, and current Ireland bowling coach, dislocated his elbow when attempting a catch and the game was immediately suspended, awaiting the arrival of an ambulance.

An hour and 50 minutes after his cry of anguish was heard all over The Lawn, he was transported to hospital with everyone wishing him a speedy recovery.

After a meeting between NCU officials and the two captains, it was agreed to postpone the final with a proposal that it will continue, possibly as early as Monday night, from where the game was halted.

Armagh are eight for no wicket, in reply to Carrick’s 123 for eight in their 20 overs. Eagleson  had hit the only six of the innings and was second top scorer with 23, behind Jay Parkhill who finished 32 not out as wickets fell regularly around him.

Carrick had enjoyed the perfect start with 34 from the first three overs but next over Michael Gilmour was caught for 22 and a superb legside stumping by Gareth McCarter accounted for fellow opener Iain Parkhill for 21.

The crucial, and avoidable wicket was that of captain CJ van der Walt who was run out by Matthew Wright to leave Carrick 56 for four at the start of the eighth over and It was 63 for five at halfway after Alex Haggan cut Ben Mackey to point.

In a six over spell, against Mackey and Harry Doyle, Carrickfergus added just 19 runs and the pair finished with combined figures of 2-23 from their eight overs. When they were replaced, Jay Parkhill and Eagleson, the youngest and oldest members of the team, put on 34 for the sixth wicket until Eagleson holed out to long-off.

Carrick managed 26 from the last three overs, while losing the wickets of Richard Hood and Ben Martin to Luan Liebenberg, while his opening partner Matthew Wright also finished with two wickets.

But the result of the final is for another day.
