BREADY CLAIM WOMEN’S PREMIERSHIP TITLE

Bready Women clinched the North West Premiership title in emphatic fashion on Tuesday night, sweeping aside Coleraine by 192 runs to complete a memorable three wins in three days.

Teenager Ella Wasson produced the defining innings, carrying her bat for a superb unbeaten 100 from just 62 deliveries. Her century contained 11 fours and five sixes and provided the platform for a formidable Bready total of 223 for three from their 20 overs.

After Lucy McGranaghan made eight and Millie Spence fell first ball, Ella was joined by Ireland international Alana Dalzell, and the pair transformed the innings with a magnificent third-wicket partnership of 189.

Alana struck 87 from only 43 balls, hitting 11 fours and two sixes before being dismissed from the final delivery of the innings. Hannah Skinner took two wickets for Coleraine, while Kenya McCartney claimed the other.

Coleraine’s reply never recovered from the pressure of the chase. Hannah Skinner was run out in the second over before Jodie Spence removed sisters Kia and Kenya McCartney in quick succession.

From there, Bready tightened their grip. Sophie Hamilton claimed two for three from three overs, while Alix Dalzell captured two for five. Jodie also finished with two for seven, and Mansi Bhavsar added the prize wicket of Amy Caulfield.

Three run-outs completed the rout as Coleraine were bowled out for 31, securing maximum bonus points and the Premiership crown for the Magheramason side.

The triumph capped an outstanding few days for Bready, who also reached the cup final on Sunday and will face Bonds Glen in next month’s decider as they chase a league-and-cup double.

They have also learned they will meet Instonians in the All-Ireland Women’s T20 semi-final next month, while Newbuildings will host competition favourites Pembroke in the men’s last four.

Those games will take place on Sunday August 9th.
