Glendermott warm up for semi-final with emphatic win

Glendermott warmed up for their National Cup semi-final with a convincing seven-wicket victory away to fellow promotion and title hopefuls Killyclooney.

The hosts posted 246, with Keenan Vieira continuing his outstanding season by scoring his third century of the campaign.

Vieira struck 113 from only 70 balls, including 14 fours and seven sixes, before eventually falling to a brilliant boundary catch. Alfie Moan added 25, while Barry Scott made 29, but Glendermott kept taking wickets to prevent the total moving beyond reach.

Craig Averill was the pick of the attack with three for 18, while Boyd and JJ O’Brien claimed two wickets apiece.

The Rectory side then produced an excellent chase, reaching their target with ten overs to spare.

The experienced opening pair of Ben Mills and Blayde Capell, facing his former club, laid the foundation with a century stand. Mills struck 65 from 46 balls, while Capell made 43.

Averill completed a fine all-round display with an unbeaten 72, sharing a decisive partnership with Jason Lynch, who contributed 32.

Glendermott remain firmly in the promotion and title picture despite captain Trevor Britton being on crutches and battling to return before the campaign ends. Their centenary season could yet prove a memorable one.
