A top of the table clash between hosts Jersey and Kuwait saw a superb display of death bowling by the visitors as they kept Jersey from scoring their required ten runs from the last four overs as they snatched a tie from the jaws of defeat at Farmers Cricket Club.

Jersey captain Chuggy Perchard, playing on the ground his dad Jim built, won the toss and chose to bowl first. Kuwait lost both openers cheaply, but most of the rest of the order made contributions, with six players all scoring over 20. Meet Bhavsar's 53 was their top score.

Kuwait's total was 223-9, with Josh Lawrenson's 3-27 the best of the bowling figures for the home side.

Jersey lost opener Nick Greenwood to a golden duck in the second over, but a 124 run partnership between Harrison Carlyon and Josh Lawrenson provided a good platform for the home side, with Carlyon scoring 77 and Lawrenson making 44.

Both fell in quick succession though, and on 155-5 after 36 overs, the game was still eavenly poised. Zak Tribe and Julius Sumeraruer added 50 for the sixth wicket before the latter was out for 28. Dom Blampied was out for a duck later in the same over and at 206-7 after the 45th over, things weren't looking too good for the home side.

Eight runs came from the 46th over though, with Jersey left needing just ten runs from four overs to win, with Zak Tribe unbeaten on 42. Then came some excellent death bowling from Kuwait bowlers Muhamed Shafeeq and Anudeep Chentharma.

Four runs came from the 47th before two came from the 48th, Zak Tribe facing just two balls across those two overs. He faced five from the penultimate over, but just two came from it, leaving Jersey needing two runs from the final over.

Jake Dunford was caught from the first ball of the last over, bringing Jersey captain Perchard to the middle at number 11. A dot followed by a single got Tribe back on track and brought the scores level. Two dots increased the pressure on Tribe and he finally cracked from the last ball of the match, trying for a boundary when only a single was needed. The ball went straight to the mid-on fielder who ran in to run out Tribe who was trying for a single that was never there.

There were wild celebrations in the Kuwaiti camp, whilst the Jersey team were the exact opposite, looking dejected. They knew they threw away a golden chance to go four points clear at the top of the table.

They have until Monday to drown their sorrows, when they take on Denmark. Kuwait are back in action tomorrow, playing Papua New Guinea. The other game tomorrow will see Kenya come up against Qatar.
