Former Phoenix all-rounder Ari Karvelas has signed a two-year contract extension at Sussex.

The 29 year-old was born in South Africa and has represented Greece/Hellas in international cricket.

During his one season at Phoenix Park he scored 513 runs at 27, scoring an unbeaten 104 against Clontarf.

He also claimed 38 wickets at 20.21, with a best-bowling return of 4 for 27 versus YMCA.

Karvelas made his Sussex debut in 2022 against Middlesex, scoring 57 and taking two wickets.

In the 50-over format that season as he finished as the leading wicket taker for Sussex with 20 wickets as they reached the semi-finals.

“It’s a really exciting time for me to be at Sussex and be a part of the team we have, as well as playing the brand of cricket we play, which is all aimed at winning." Karvelas told the Sussex website.

Sussex Head Coach, Paul Farbrace added: “Ari has impressed me in my short time at the Club and I love his attitude.

“He looks like a bowler who can take wickets in all conditions, and I am delighted he has committed to another two years here at Hove.”
