CARRICKFERGUS

  • Captain: CJ van Der Walt
  • Overseas Professional: Michael Rippon
  • Players in: Michael Rippon, Jake Egan
  • Players out: Jacques Snyman, Jeremy Lawlor, Daniel Kearsley

It's all change at Carrickfergus this season with CJ van der Walt as the new captain, and two new overseas arrivals.

The new professional is 31 year-old Netherlands and New Zealand all rounder Michael Rippon, a middle-order batsman and left-arm wrist spinner, who plays his domestic cricket for Otago in New Zealand.

He will be joined by 19 year old Irish passport holder Jake Egan, a highly regarded young batsman and off-spinner from Perth, Western Australia.

Former Irish international Stephen Smyth has also joined the club as Director of Cricket, and the club, especially the younger players, should benefit from his experience.

CJ van der Walt said: "We are pleased to welcome Michael, Jake, and Stephen to the club, and am sure that they will make a positive impact this season.

"The remainder of our playing squad will be much the same as last season, with a good blend of youth and experience.

"We are hoping that the youngsters will continue to develop and they will take their chances as the season develops.

"We are aware that the Premier League will be stronger than ever this year, but are confident that we have the ability to compete well, and give a good account of ourselves."
