Ireland have been dealt another blow ahead of their tour of Bangladesh with Barry McCarthy ruled out with a knee injury.

The Pembroke seamer joins Josh Little and Conor Olphert on the sidelines for the six-week tour.

Matthew Foster - who is the squad for the Sri Lanka tour - would have been an obvious replacement for McCarthy, but he too has injury concerns, currently struggling with a hamstring injury.

The selectors have it's believed turned to North Down's Irish passport holding South African Tom Mayes.

The 21 year-old, who played for Limpopo, has taken 12 wickets in his nine matches for the Northern Knights in the interprovincial competition.

Ireland are due to fly from Dublin on Saturday, with their first game against Bangladesh a week today, on the 18th.
