Waringstown have signed South African Pat Botha for the 2023 campaign.

The experienced all-rounder has previously played three seasons with Carrickfergus, scoring 1623 runs at 41.62, while also picking up 51 wickets with his off-spin.

The 32 year-old was to join Balbriggan in 2019, but a serious thumb injury meant he was unable to, while a proposed move to Woodvale in 2020 collapsed due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Botha has 16 first-class centuries to his name, and his undoubted pedigree will help the 2021 NCU champions Waringstown bounce back after a poor 2022 season.

The six-times Irish Senior Cup winners will also have a new captain, with Greg Thompson taking over the reins from Lee Nelson, who is stepping down.
