There was sadness in the local cricket community with the news of the death of Dixon Rose MBE.

Dixon was prominent in both hockey and cricketing circles, and was awarded the MBE for his services to sport in the 2008 Queen's Honours list.

He was a senior hockey international, and on the cricketing front was a member of the Instonians side that won the 1962 Senior League, and two years later captained them to NCU Challenge Cup success.

Dixon was a formidable administrator, who in the words of cricket historian Clarence Hiles "Got things done."

He was President of the Irish Cricket Union in 1984 and also served as Irish Hockey President, completing a unique double.
