Armagh should have plenty to look forward to in the 2022 season with a full return to 50 over league cricket and a hope to build on a decent campaign the year before where they came fourth in the Section One table.

The team has been boosted by the addition of South African former Woodvale overseas all-rounder JJ Strydom who had an excellent year in Belfast in 2018 as well as plenty of UK experience despite his tender years.

The return of Alan Whitcroft from a spell in the NW PL with Coleraine should add variety to the bowling attack.

Captain Michael Hoey is hopeful ahead of the new campaign, "We were content with 2021 after a slow start in the 20 over games and to be next best after the dominant top three was something we were quite happy with.

"Section One is always a really close division and there’s nothing to suggest this year will be any different.

"Adding the overseas guys and the white ball to the equation should be a big change but will push up the quality and we are looking to JJ Strydom to push us forward on and off the field.

"Otherwise our team set-up and personnel should hopefully be fairly similar to other seasons and we look forward to welcoming teams to the Mall in 2022."
