It was an excellent league campaign for Waringstown who got over an early season loss to go and win 13 out of 14 matches and complete an emphatic title win.

There was some controversy after they were thrown out of the senior cup following an administrative error, with Johnny Bushe not registered in time.

They had by and large a settled side with ten players making 13 or more appearances, and only using 15 in total.

They had a strong spine of experience, with undoubted quality and depth throughout. At the epicentre was the South African duo of Andre Malan and Graham Hume who topped the batting and bowling respectively.

Andre Malan and Graham Hume

Malan scored 937 runs at an average of 78.08, scoring four hundreds and four 50's in his 14 innings. Skipper Lee Nelson came to the party with a late run as he scored two hundreds in the closing straight, making 595 runs at exactly 35.

Adam Dennison was the other senior centurion as he hit 570 runs at 30, while Hume's 565 runs came at a healthy 47.08, including five fifties.

Greg Thompson hit 416 at 27.73, while despite injuries James McCollum managed 412 at 31.69, while Morgan Topping contributed 332 at 18.44.

The bowling unit was pretty solid, with Hume the spearhead. He claimed 32 wickets at just 15.78, including a six wicket haul.

Another six wicket display was taken by Kyle McCallan who managed 28 at 20.39, just ahead of James Mitchell who returned 26 wickets at just over 27.

Malan had 18 wickets at 25.28 before his premature return home, while the fifth bowling duties were shared primarily by Greg Thompson (14 wkts) and Lee Nelson (12 wkts).

Waringstown will be without Malan for the 2022 season, but have already signed a replacement overseas player, and may add further over the winter given that CIYMS have signaled their intentions with a new professional and Ross Adair already joining,

It should be an intriguing 2022.
