Half centuries from Brian Dunphy, Robert O'Brien and Ethan Marshall saw Leinster run out convincing winners in the first of four Under 13 interprovincials between the sides this week.

Skipper Dunphy hit 8 fours and 5 sixes as he top scored with 78, sharing an opening stand of 94 with Bruce Whaley who made 34.

Robert O'Brien - nephew of Niall and Kevin - made an unbeaten 68, while Ethan Marshall hit ten fours and a six in a quickfire 60 as Leinster made an imposing 331 for 8 in their 40 overs.

James West - son of former Irish international Regan - was best with the ball taking 3 for 34.

He top scored too in the reply, making 14 as the NCU were bowled out for 118.

Dunphy (3-16) completed a fine all-round display, while there were two wickets apiece for Raif Duncan, Lorcan Craik, and Harry Irving.

The teams meet at Pirrie Park in the second match on Wednesday.
