Kent pace bowler Grant Stewart will play for Italy in the European T20 World Cup Qualifier in October it was announced today.
The 27 year old has Italian citizenship through his mother, with that side of his family hailing from the village of Lettopalena in the Province of Chieti, around two hours east of Rome.
Speaking to the official Kent CCC website Stewart said, "Iím really excited to have the opportunity to play competitive international cricket with Italy. Iím proud of my Italian heritage and Iím excited about the future of international T20 cricket."
Stewart so far has taken nine wickets in 15 T20 matches at an average of 46.66 with an economy rate of 8.93. Whilst not impressive on the surface, his experience will no doubt give a boost to the Italian side.
Italy will play Jersey, Germany and Denmark in the tournament, to be held in Spain. The winners and runners-up will qualify for the global qualifiers.
