MURRAY Commins cannot play for CIYMS after the Home Office confirmed what the NCU suspected; the South African has arrived in Northern Ireland, as a professional cricketer, with the wrong visa to play sport.

It is a devastating blow to the Premier League champions although they haven’t given up hope that he will be able to play later in the season, if a different visa can be fast-tracked.

Commins received special dispensation to play for Munster Reds in last week’s inter-provincial game at Eglinton and it is expected he will be able to play in their three home games plus their next game, away to Leinster Lightning next Thursday in Dublin, as different rules apply in the Republic.
