There was special cause for celebration as Willie Heron celebrated his 100th birthday earlier this month.

A former pupil of King's Hospital School, Mr Heron was a keen sportsman and was a member of the Leinster Schools Cup winning side of 1937.

As well as congratulatory messages from Leo Varadkar and Michael D. Higgins, there was a special garden visit from current school members and staff.

They presented Mr Heron with a schoolbook from the year which outlined his achievements plus a schools cap.
