Stella Downes has become Cricket Leinster President, taking over the reins from Peter Thew.

In doing so, she becomes the first woman to fulfil the role, and is looking forward immensely to the challenges ahead.

"Iím honoured and proud to be elected President of Cricket Leinster," Stella told CricketEurope.

"The messages of support I have received are both humbling and heartwarming. Iím very conscious of the giants of the game who have filled this role before me ... I have huge shoes to fill, but Iíll do my best.

"2020 has been a challenging year for all and huge credit must go to the administration in every Union for ensuring that we got to enjoy some cricket. Hopefully season 2021 will be a full one, played in glorious sunshine!

"All clubs will face challenges in the coming months as we prepare for next season in these uncertain times. I look forward to working with Cricket Leinster to support clubs in any way we can.

"Iím passionate about every area of cricket, from the senior teams down to the youngest kids. I look forward to having an excuse to be at cricket every day next season.

"In the meantime, winter well everyone... and stay safe!"
