Clontarf have confirmed the signing of South African all-rounder Marco Marais for the 2021 season.

He had been due to join the Castle Avenue side for the current season before the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

"I'm really happy to have signed for next year," Marais told CricketEurope.

"It was a pity I couldn't come over this season due to Corona.

"I've heard there are a nice bunch of youngsters coming through so hoping to improve them as much as possible for the future.

"I've played at Clontarf once before, and really enjoyed the ground, so very happy to be going there for next season."

The 26 year-old has previous experience of Irish conditions, having enjoyed two stellar seasons playing for Fox Lodge in the NW Championship.

He scored 2252 runs in his stint at the Ballymagorry club averaging nearly 75.

Marais also played in the UK with mixed results due to injury. He holds the record for the fastest triple-hundred in first-class cricket, taking just 191 balls while playing for Border against Easter Province.
