Bangor claim Bowl in unbeaten season
On their home turf Bangor defeated Drumaness SuperKings by eight wickets to claim the Robinson Services Bowl and thus complete an unbeaten season.
Bangor gave little away in the early stages of the game and their decision to ask Drumaness to bat seemed to pay dividends as runs proved hard to come by.
Only James Cunningham, who made the short move from Downpatrick a few seasons ago, was able to keep the score ticking along as others came and went.
Cunningham was eventually out for 50 and at that stage the odds were on Drumaness managing to post something in the eighties.
Darren Oldroyd had other ideas and his late burst that saw him finish 28* took the visitors over the hundred mark.
Best figures for the home side were from Taj Onyekwelu who finished with 4-13, Adam McCusker with two assists behind the stumps.
The Bangor chase was paced to perfection - and if Cunningham was the star for Drumaness it was Mark English who picked off runs at will in an innings of 49 that eased any worries the home side might have had.
English was bowled for 49 and so the honour of hitting the winning runs fell to Bangor captain Adam McCusker who glanced away the winning boundary as he finished 27 not out.
Bangor have completed an unbeaten if abbreviated season and have already declared their intention to gain promotion back through the league ranks.
With their ground yesterday looking every bit the representative venue it has been in the past it is now up to the players to bring back the glory days to this part of North Down.
