On a day where the bowlers suffered severe punishment, four batsmen will have come to the attention to Head Coach Nigel Jones in the Leinster intra-squad game at Malahide.

Stephen Doheny and Tim Tector shared an unbroken stand of 141 in 16 overs to win the game for Thunder, with the Rush man top scoring with 87, hitting 7 fours and 2 sixes in his 78-ball innings.

Tector, who will be in action today for YMCA in the League Cup final, was at his brutal best. thumping 4 sixes and 4 fours in his undefeated 74 from just 53 balls, adding further to his impressive reputation.

Jamie Grassi (43) and Jack Tector (27) were also in the runs, with Fiachra Tucker (1-9) the best of the bowlers.

The Sparks innings was also dominated by two players making half centuries, with Jeremy Lawlor making 79, and Greg Ford 84.

Ford's knock came from 82 balls and included 5 fours and 3 sixes, while former Glamorgan player's Lawlor's innings occupied 95 balls (8 fours, 1 six).

Once again the bowlers took some heavy punishment, with internationals Peter Chase and Curtis Campher proving particularly expensive on a fine batting track.

Lightning start the defence of their 50-overs interpro crown with an away day trip to Comber next Thursday, September 17th (10.15am).
