Donemana face CIYMS after 23rd senior cup triumph

DONEMANA will play CIYMS in the All-Ireland T20 Cup semi-final next Saturday but put your house on a victory for the NCU T20 cup holders. The only thing that matters in the cricket-mad North West Village is that the Senior Cup is back home.
A 14 runs victory over Brigade, in the holders’ back yard, sealed Donemana’s 23rd success in their favourite competition – only Sion Mills have won more – and although they will again represent the North West in the All-Ireland tournament, it will be treated as a day out by the new Senior Cup winners.
“It will be a bit of crack next Saturday, it won’t matter too much,” said William McClintock, after lifting the cup in his first year as captain. “We played CI at Belmont last year and lost but the only thing that matters is the Senior Cup is back home.”
The celebrations at The Holm went long into the night.
It was two of the unsung heroes who helped Donemana to their latest cup glory, indeed McClintock admitted he was thinking of moving Dean Mehaffey down the order.
Since his 38 not out in the opening day win over Ardmore, “he has been struggling but I backed the players and decided there was no point changing it for one game, and he came good on Saturday”, said the captain as Mehaffey finished top scorer with 45 and followed up with two early wickets to claim the man of the match award.
At half time, McClintock was “over the moon” with a total of 133 and he paid tribute to No 9 Billy Dougherty for his late, vital runs.
Then, In the hectic closing stages, it was William McBrine who came up trumps with two late scalps to ensure the cup specialists stayed in control.
William hasn’t been bowling well but the 18th over was the best he has bowled all year. Again I backed him and he didn’t let me down,” added McClintock.
Scores: Donemana 133-6 (D Mehaffey 45, W McClintock 25; R Allen 4-15) Brigade 119-9 (D Barr 60 not out; D Mehaffey 2-16, W McBrine 2-18, A McBrine 2-24). Donemana won by 14 runs.
