Amy Hunter's half century coupled with three wickets for Orla Prendergast helped the Typhoons to a comfortable 53-runs win at Anglesea Road.

Batting first The Typhoons lost Irish international Rachel Delaney early, dismissed by Louise McCarthy (2-21).

However Instonians teenager Hunter together with skipper Laura Delany (23) regrouped and added 47 for the second wicket to lay a solid foundation.

Hunter hit six boundaries in a solid 54 before being dismissed by Waringstown leg-spinner Cara Murray (2-42).

Robyn Lewis hit a breezy 20, while Louise Little added 19 late on, including the innings only six, before becoming one of three run outs.

Anna Kerrison (2-35) also took two wickets as the Typhoons finished on 177 all out.

Orla Prendergast struck two early and ultimately decisive blows as she dismissed in-form Gaby Lewis (10) and Sophie MacMahon with successive balls and thereafter the Scorchers innings never really recovered.

Left-hander Leah Paul did her best to hold the innings together, but received little support as a succession of batters made single digit scores.

Wickets fell in clusters with Celeste Raack picking up the scalps of Shauna Kavanagh and Caoimhe McCann.

Irish international Paul hit five boundaries in a top score of 48 before being run out to leave the Typhoons on the brink of victory at 108 for 8.

Prendergast picked up her third, while Jane Maguire ended the contest as she had Kate McEvoy caught to leave the Scorchers 124 all out - Laura Delany and Georgia Dempsey the other successful bowlers.

Despite the loss the Scorchers still have an overall 3-2 lead in the eight match series, with the sixth match scheduled for Claremont Road next Sunday, Sept 13 (10.30am).
