KILLYCLOONEY AND FOX LODGE FACING DATE WITH DESTINY

It promises to be a huge weekend as the group stages of the NW T20 competition reaches the final stages with three of the four senior cup semi-final berths still to be filled.

There are two winner takes all clashes as Championship sides Killyclooney and Fox Lodge have a chance to join Coleraine as they face Premiership kingpins Donemana and Bready.

‘Clooney skipper Timothy Dougherty has been in fine form this past few weeks leading his side to famous wins against Donemana and Ardmore and Saturday’s visit to The Holm holds no fears.

“We are all really looking forward to the challenge as all the pressure is on Donemana,” Dougherty told the Chronicle.

“I’ve been very impressed how we have performed under pressure the past two games against teams from the top division, getting over the line twice despite looking second favourites and time. We have a great camaraderie in the squad with everyone putting their hands up.”

Dougherty showed real courage taking responsibility to bowl at the death of their win over Ardmore, and that leadership will stand Killyclooney in good stead as they enter the lions’ den at Donemana.

Killyclooney have never reached a senior final, and another side also hoping for a debut on the region’s biggest stage is Fox Lodge, who emerged victorious from a real nail-biter against Burndennett.

“Saturday was a huge win for us,” said Foxies top scorer Jason Milligan. “Burndennet are a good side and as a local derby game form goes out the window. It really was a brilliant game to be involved in.

“To recover from 19/4 I think it was to set up a match winning total was a superb effort. Probably up there with one of my most important innings considering the situation we found ourselves in.

“Mark Heywood and Ali Doherty also played important cameos to get us up to 143. Burndennett really gave the chase a good go and it went to the last ball and thankfully we came out on top.

“We now play Bready at home, and we know this is not going to be an easy game as they have been going well the last couple of games like ourselves. I’m hoping if we stick to what we have been doing the last couple of games we are in with a real good chance of grabbing that semi-final slot.”
