While their planned international matches may have fallen by the wayside, Dutch coach Ryan Campbell got a good look at both established and potential stars during the first three of eight scheduled regional matches.

Ben Cooper was the stand-out batsman of the games, while Sebastian Braat was also to the fore in three excellent matches in tough, sweltering conditions.

Braat scored 41 in the first match as Seafarers scored 184 - Hidde Overdijk top scorer with 54, while Bas de Leede claimed 4 for 20.

Lucas del Bianco (41) and Clayton Flord (38*) ensured a successful five-wicket chase.

Cooper made 119 in the second match, sharing a second wicket stand of 131 with Vikram Singh (53), but they still fell five runs short of the Seafarers.

Braat (3-40) the hero with the ball, holding his nerve in a tense final over.

He had top scored with an unbeaten 62, with Saqib Zulfiqar also getting a half century.

The final game of the week was a T20 contest, with Adam Wiffen (60) and Tobias Visee (45) adding 90 in the Seafarers 148 -  four wickets for Clayton Floyd.

Cooper carried his 50-over form into the chase, making an excellent 64 to ensure his efforts weren't in vain this time.

Reflecting on the first week, Campbell was clearly enthusiastic about the number of players who took their opportunity to impress.

(Ben Cooper)

"We enjoyed a really competitive three days in oppressive weather conditions. There were some standout performances especially from Ben Cooper, Hidde Overdijk and Sebastaan Braat as well as some really promising signs from our “next generation” players in Julian de Mey, Clayton Floyd, Vikram Singh, Lucas Del Bianco & Pierre Jacod.

"The fact that these games were so close added an extra competitive edge to matches. The mix of experience (Paul van Meekeren, Viv Kingma, Tobias Visee) combined with a bunch of raw youngsters was really enjoyable to watch.

"Plenty of mistakes were made that’s for sure but lots of learning took place."

There will be a chance to iron out any mistakes next week in three more games, before the series concludes with two additional matches.
