Irish captain Laura Delany and international team-mate Orla Prendergast both scored half centuries  as their Typhoons side chased down 219 to beat the Scorchers at Oak Hill in the opening game of the series.

They shared a third wicket stand of 88 to break the back of the chase, after Rebecca Stokell (42) and Rachel Delaney (13) had laid a solid platform for the pursuit.

The pair rotated the strike well and offered few opportunities. Prendergast reach her fifty first, hitting eight boundaries in her 58 from 72 balls.

(Orla Prendergast scored 58)

Delany stayed to the end, finishing unbeaten on 68, which included 3 fours and a six.

There was an entertaining cameo at the end from Belfast teenager Amy Hunter who came in with 41 needed, and proceeded to hit 27 from just 23 balls as the match finished with a flurry of boundaries.

Earlier, the Scorchers innings was dominated by an opening stand of 129 in 28 overs between skipper Gaby Lewis and Leah Paul, both of whom made half centuries. with 74

Lewis top-scored with 74 from 106 balls (5 fours, 1 six), while Paul's 50 took 87 balls and included three boundaries.

Two wickets apiece from Delany (2-19) and leg-spinner Celeste Raack (2-31) slowed down the innings, with the Scorchers unable to build up any momentum despite the concession of 31 wides and four no-balls.

Raack will be on a hat-trick with her next ball in the competition, having had Alana Dalzell and Louise McCarthy stumped by Hunter from the final two balls of the innings.

The next game is scheduled for this Sunday, August 9th at Pembroke.
