Bready Women got their season up and running with an emphatic 50-run win over Burndennett in the only fixture to be played in the league on Monday night.

Killyclooney were unable to field a side versus Fox Lodge, while the Eglinton against Newbuildings match was called off as a mark of respect following the death of Dermot O’Doherty.

Bready skipper Alana Dalzell carried her bat hitting three boundaries in her unbeaten 36 which helped her side to 89 for 5 in their 16 overs.

She was given good support by Abbie McKnight (17) and Kathryn Rough, who also found the boundary three times in a quickfire 22.

The Burndennett bowlers stuck to their task well, with Kacie Laird (2-16) the most successful. Lucy Neely, Julie Logue and new signing from Strabane Saints Chloe Deans all taking one apiece.

The Burndennett reply never got going, as the Bready quartet kept a tight stranglehold on their innings. Abbie McKnight bowled superbly, taking three wickets including the crucial one of former Irish international Julie Logue.

Kaylee Barnard (2-14) and Steph Wilkinson (1-6) also took wickets while Dalzell conceded just three runs from her four overs as Burndennett finished on 39 for 7.

Summary score: At Burndennett,

Bready 89/7 (16 overs; Alana Dalzell 36*, Kathryn Rough 22, Abbie McKnight 17; Kacie Laird 2-16) beat Burndennett 39/7 (Abbie McKnight 3-13, Kaylee Barnard 2-14) by 50 runs.

The league continues Thursday as Bready entertain Eglinton, Killyclooney host Burndennett, while Fox Lodge travel to Newbuildings.
