Damian Crowley speaks to CricketEurope about a new challenge at HCC in The Netherlands, where he has settled with his wife. He made a dream start with his new club, leading his side to victory at the weekend with a run-a-ball 74.
How did the move come about?
Myself and my wife discussed emigrating from South Africa in December last year and through our research, the Netherlands ticked all the boxes.
I was put in touch with the Hague Cricket Club by a close friend, Kenny Jackson.
Have you played club cricket in Europe before?
Yes, I played for Pianoro Cricket club in Italy in 2010 whilst I was doing my qualification to play for the national side.
Great to make a winning start with HCC - and score runs?
It was a great win but it was even better to be out competing again as a few months ago we were uncertain if any cricket would be played.
It is always nice to contribute with the bat and help the team over the line but the team is looking good and we are excited for the rest of the season.
T20 suit your game?
T20 is a great format. With Italy, I have competed in many T20 tournaments and I thoroughly enjoy it. As a competitor you always wants to perform so it's about adapting your game to do well in all formats.
Finally - will we see you in Italian colours again soon?
I would love to play again for Italy if the opportunity comes my way. It is always an honour.
