The Comber side revealed the biggest signing of the summer last week with Irish international Paul Stirling, and he will be joined at The Green by Aditya Adey and Andrew Haire.

Stirling is guaranteed box office but just how many matches he will actually feature in with Ireland and Northants commitments is very much up in the air. He looks certain to be absent for the first three games when the Irish are taking on England in three ODI's in Southampton.

Ally Shields has the skippers armband, and he's tipping Carl Robinson to have a real impact.

(North Down skipper Ally Shields reaches 50)

"Carl Robinson has been training with the Northern Knights over the winter, and should be a real threat for us with the ball with his leg spin.

"Aditya Adey will add quality in all three departments and is another guy who can push on to representative cricket with a good year.

"Our focus for the season is to challenge for all cups. We’ve done fairly well in T20 cricket over the last few years, although we have not managed to pick up silverware, so would be nice to go one better.

"We’ve added real depth to the squad so have good competition for places and the boys have looked really hungry at training so far, so hopefully we can hit the ground running!"

North Down will begin their season with a home game against Carrickfergus on Saturday July 18th, followed  by an away trip to Waringstown.

It should be quite an exciting season for the clubs, albeit an abbreviated one. I
