Bready Cricket Club are providing a wonderful meals on wheels service for the vulnerable in their community during the ongoing pandemic crisis.
The club have to date delivered over 500 Sunday meals to those most in need in the local surroundings, particularly the elderly, and those in isolation during the lock-down.
Trevor Hamilton from the club explains how the service came about.
"At our last committee meeting in early March before restrictions were put in place, we all acknowledged that tough times were ahead, but we discussed how we could make a positive contribution to the local community during this time.
"We acknowledged that we have large number of elderly and vulnerable people within the community and we agreed we would supply them with a one-off Sunday dinner..
"It proved a resounding success and it has since snowballed and thanks to donations from club sponsors FAST Technologies, Fleming Agri, Nisa Store Magheramason, grants from the Community Foundation NI, Derry City & Strabane District Council, Tesco's and families throughout the community, we are now able to provide this support for the weeks ahead... how long nobody knows...
"On top of this we have a team of a dozen volunteers who on top of meal deliveries are helping with Pharmacy runs and grocery collections.
"The feedback for the 'Cricketing Cooks' and delivery drivers has been great, but itís great how all of the community has come together to help anyone out who needs support."
