Thomas McGrane has died following a long illness borne with great dignity.
He was a real cricket legend in the Fingal area, fulfilling a variety of roles as he strove to drive the game forward in the region which was to become a real hotbed of Irish cricket.
He was a tireless worker for the game which he loved and the strength of cricket in Fingal is his legacy.
He was also a league umpire but as one tribute paid by Justin Rodgers of Malahide on social media indicated, his good nature made him a reluctant judge.
"One of Fingal's great cricket stalwarts. He was a true gentleman. Even when he umpired he apologized when he gave you out whether he was right or wrong. You couldn't dislike the man."
