Waringstown have moved quickly to sign Andre Malan as their overseas professional for the 2020 season.

It emerged last week that their original selection Shadley von Shalkwyk wouldn't be coming, having retired with immediate effect to emigrate to Seattle on a three-year player and coaching contract.

Former CSNI professional Malan is a player of undoubted quality, topping the NCU run charts last season with his haul of 1238 runs at 65.16, having scored 940 runs at 47 in 2018.

In addition he collected 41 wickets to finish third behind the CIYMS pair of James Cameron-Dow and Jacob Mulder, just behind his 2018 tally of 43 wickets.

Malan's capture is sure to boost Waringstown who after an all-conquering 2018, slipped somewhat in 2019, despite reaching the Irish Senior Cup final.

Lee Nelson is back at the helm having taken over the reins from Greg Thompson, and with players of the calibre of James McCollum, James Hall and Kyle McCallan also in the ranks, you would fancy the Villagers to be at the forefront when challenging for major honours in 2020.
