Influential all-rounder Johnny Thompson is leaving Brigade for pastures new at Newbuildings.

The former Ireland A international was part of the all-conquering side at Beechgrove which won the double in 2019, but is off to join the Newbuildings revolution.

The County Londonderry side has built a superb ground at FoyleView from scratch and are now keen to match their ambition on the field as well as off it.

"Newbuildings CC are delighted to announce that Johnny Thompson has joined the club ahead of the new season," said the club in a statement to CricketEurope.

"Having already brought in Gareth McKeegan to captain our 1st XI we are delighted to have Johnny on board as well. Both players have a fantastic winning mentality and we feel that is exactly what we want at Newbuildings.

"For the past couple of years our focus has been on our new field and making sure that the facilities were as good as they could be. We probably took our eye off the ball a bit in terms of the playing side of things, so we're determined to put that right going forward.

"We have young players like Trent McKeegan, Jason Dunn, Todd Killen and Jordan McCorkell who can benefit so much from playing alongside men like JT and Gareth.

"This is another step forward for our club and we're all now really looking forward to the start of the new season."
