There was a surprise bonus for CIYMS batsman Jason van der Merwe last night.

After the celebrations for winning the Premier League title died down, he received an award from the Northern Cricket Union to recognise his run scoring in the Union's two cup-finals.

In the T20 Cup Final against Waringstown he scored 80 off 57 deliveries with 7x4, 4x6, in a game that CIYMS won by a single run.

In the Challenge Cup Final he scored a more pedestrian, but vital for his side, 50 off 79 deliveries with 4x4, 1x6.

The presentation of a crystal tankard was made on behalf of the Union by President Richard Johnson.
